QUITLINE Iowa

Quitline Iowa is a toll-free, statewide smoking cessation telephone counseling hotline. Trained counselors provide callers assistance in making an individualized quit plan and on-going support through optional follow-up calls.

The Quitline offers both English and Spanish-speaking coaches. Services are available in an additional 150 languages through a translation service. Services are also provided for the hearing impaired (TDD). Services are always free.

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday - Thursday 7am to midnight

  • Friday 7am to 9pm

  • Saturday and Sunday 8am to 7pm

Clinical Cessation Program

There is a new service to provide free medication and counseling to help you quit tobacco. At over a dozen clinics across Iowa, you can get a 12-week supply of most FDA approved medications, including nicotine patches and Chantix. To find a clinic near you, contact the Iowa/Nebraska Primary Care Association at 515-244-9610 or the clinic nearest you.

  • Community Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa, Inc. - Burlington, (Burlington and Keokuk sites)

  • Council Bluffs Community Health Center - Council Bluffs

  • Crescent Community Health Center - Dubuque

  • Linn Community Care - Cedar Rapids

  • Peoples Community Health Center, Inc. - Waterloo

  • Primary Health Care, Inc. - Des Moines (Des Moines and Marshalltown sites)

  • River Hills Community Health Center - Ottumwa

  • Siouxland Community Health Center - Sioux City

  • United Community Health Center - Storm Lake

QuitSmart

We, the Pottawattamie County Tobacco Prevention Coalition, offer the Quit Smart program. Quit Smart is available in a self-help stop smoking kit and as a four-session quit smoking class that utilizes the kit plus personalized instruction. Quit Smart combines several powerful treatment elements - including hypnosis, medication recommendations and a patented simulated cigarette - to produce a potent stop-smoking treatment. The program was developed by Dr. Robert Shipley, director of the Duke Medical Center Stop Smoking Clinic.
